Well, it's an innovative theatrical collaboration bringing together the multi-award winning The PlayGround Collective (Intricate Art of Actually Caring, Katydid), the always surprising and immediate Binge Culture Collective (Elimination Rounds, Animal Hour) and Toi Whakaari graduate Aidan Weekes to present works-in-progress as they work towards creating performances for commercial presentation.
The project has also allowed for the creation of a new youth collective: Not Another Theatre Company. Not Another is a collaboration between students from four Wellington high schools, who are lucky enough to receive mentoring from established practitioners as they work towards presenting their first devised performance.
In a first for Wellington theatre, The Peek Party will develop links between award-winning practitioners and the next generation of Wellington theatre makers. The established companies have generously opened their doors to host open rehearsals and provide mentoring to Not Another to allow for unique insights into the theatre making process and to help develop the skills required of producing theatre companies.
It's running 26 - 29 January, 7:30pm at The Gryphon Theatre, Ghuznee Street, Wellington. Tickets are a meagre $5! And bookings can be made right here on the website, at thepeekparty@gmail.com or get your ticket on the door.
What is The Peek Party?
What will I see?
Four (yup four!) brand new pieces of theatre - each in it's first incarnation. This is an awesome chance to see each company pushing the boundaries and to be a part of developing and shaping each piece as it moves forward. The bill includes:
The PlayGround Collective presenting the first act of their unique version of Hans Christian Anderson’s The Tinderbox.
Binge Culture Collective bringing you a slice of subversive kiwiana, with work drawn from the development of their new show This Rugged Beauty.
Not Another experimenting with I Am This, a devised work structured around the daily experience of clicking through the internet and the non-linear, fragmented realities that result.
Weekes and Abbey will present the mysterious and thrilling true story of The Aliens of Poverty Bay.
And all for a lowly fiver, what a way to kick off the year!
